Jackalopes in November: Friendsgiving and Fundraising

Welcome to the eleventh edition of El Paso Rugby’s Monthly Newsletter!

Where we keep you updated on all things El Paso Rugby. We’re excited to have you along for the journey! Check out what we got up to in November.

Officially in the Off Season

We wrapped up practices on November 10th and started a well-deserved holiday break. But of course, we still want to hang out. So there have been get togethers and activities throughout November that we’d love to share with you.

Touch & Friendsgiving

It was a warm Saturday just after practices ended and we decided to get together and play some touch. There were some standard rugby moves as well as some fun behind-the-back passes and even some kicking which would be considered a rarity in touch. It was a great time and we all worked up an appetite for Friendsgiving later that day.

Our potluck-style Friendsgiving was a huge success. We had everything from a poorly carved turkey to as many pies as there were people. The meal was delicious and the company was heart-warming. We even got to taste test the Phô from Megan and Leonie Xiong that would be on sale as our December fundraiser. We ended the night with a bonfire and learning about double jointed toes… We love you crazy Jackalopes and can’t wait to take the pitch again together in January.

Socialing Is Never Out Of Season

The Jackalopes can’t resist getting together even in the off season and have been known to show up in force at a local bar for the evening. We took the opportunity to enjoy the back patio at The El Paso Wing Factory recently. And we’ll be visiting other bars around El Paso in the off season.

We’re in the market for a more permanent sponsor bar. Somewhere that can host 40-50 people and has beer and food. Let us know if you think we should try out your favorite spot next time!

Home Field Fundraiser

The women+ team will officially be competing in the Division II of SWRU in the Spring, starting in January. This means we will be travelling to places like Albuquerque, Tucson, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. We’ll also be hosting each of these teams here in El Paso and will need to put together a regulation field complete with uprights and post pads.

This all comes with a hefty price tag and we are trying to raise roughly $4,000 before the Spring season. We’ll be running smaller fundraisers all feeding into this goal. We’ll also be asking for donations which are tax-deductible and you may even have a corporate matching program to double your donation. Make your donation to El Paso Rugby Football Club today and get that tax write-off for 2022!
